Taiwan Shortens Mandatory Quarantine to 7 Days

In lights of the global COVID-19 vaccination rate, and the shorter incubation period for the Omicron variant, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that starting on May 9, 2022, the mandatory quarantine for oversea arrivals will be reduced from 10 days to 7 days.

FAQ

Can I travel to Taiwan now?

For now, only the following foreign nationals may apply to enter Taiwan.

Does the visa exemption program apply?

Visa-exempt entry, visa on arrival, and e-visa services remain suspended.

Is mandatory quarantine still required for travelers?

The mandatory quarantine is still required for all oversea arrivals. Further to the 10+7 quarantine, the quarantine period will be shortened from 10 days to 7 days from May 9.

Please note the day of arrival counts as Day 0; a 7-day self-health management will be required starting the 8th day. Arrivals will undergo a PCR test upon arrival (Day 0). Before the end of quarantine (the 7th day), arrivals will undergo a rapid test. At-home rapid test kits will be provided by international airport personnel upon entry.

Considering the age limit on using at-home rapid test kits, children under aged 2 who are under home quarantine will undergo a PCR test on the last day of quarantine period (the 7th day). People who have difficulty using at-home rapid test kits on their own will receive rapid tests arranged and performed by local governments.

The arrival should quarantine at home or a residence of a friend or relative, and the principle of “one person per residence” should be observed. If the arrival cannot follow the principle of one person per residence, the arrival should complete the 7-day quarantine at a quarantine hotel.

Family members who arrive on the same day as the arrival may choose to quarantine together in their home or a residence of a relative. Or, they may stay in the same quarter of a quarantine hotel.

Can we book quarantine hotels through Edison Tours?

Yes. We provide consultation services and reservations in quarantine hotels and non-quarantine hotels throughout the whole country. Other travel services such as private transfer to the airport can also be handled through our company.

Does Edison Tours provide optional tours for business travelers?

Yes. As of now, we have 15 regular sightseeing tours, 5 seasonal tours and 16 private tours available for reservation. There will be more to come soon.

According to CECC, if the coverage of COVID-19 vaccine booster achieves 70% of the local population, there is a high likelihood that Taiwan will be open to foreign tourists during the summer time this year.
